OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH no... (the call of the wild #1)

Oh dear God. (Please no one take offense at that comment.)
I have read the very first paragraph of The Call of the Wild and there are six, count 'em, SIX commas in the first sentence. I can't follow the thing. Please, let this book get better as it goes on.
Well, so far there is this dog. I think he is a husky or something, and his name is Buck. Buck does not read the newspaper, so he doesn't know what is going on. Buck is going ot be needed, along with all the oher dogs of his kind from "Puget Sound to San Diego" to go to the North as men have found a "yellow metal" (a.k.a. gold) there. I get the impression that this is going to be a really sad book. From reading the very first paragraph, even, I notice that the way the author has of telling the story tells everything form the dog's point of view, kind of, and usually dog's like Buck don't have the best lives. I hope they dont', you know, beat him or anything like that. I couldn't bear it.

AAAAAH!!! NO FAIR!!! You started without me...now I am going to feel oppressed with a vague sense of impending calamity... :( And it's ALL YOUR FAULT!! No really, I'm proud that you were able to start already. But BEWARE...I'm always lerking with the early morning. And once in a while I appear to be one with the dust bunnies under what you thought was a CARPET!!!!! What's this world coming to when we can't even trust our own carpet???...what a bummer day THAT would be!

You know what is so funny? In this book, they actually use the phrase "oppressed by a vague sense of impending calamity"!

I don't think Buck's a husky. Isn't he mix two other kinds of dogs?

Yes, Mathini, you're right. I forget what dogs he was a mix of, but I know he's not a husky.
